Egypt and Germany Expand Tourism Cooperation Through Cultural Development Initiatives

In a recent turn of events, the minister of tourism and antiquities of Egypt, Mr. Sherif Fathy, had talks with the president of the German Travel Association (DRV), Albin Loidl. Also with the senior DRV official Volker Adams and with delegations of leading German tour operator executives during a major meeting held at the Giza Pyramids.

During the tourism-related discussion, the major companies and tour operators of Germany, like Bentour Reisen, Biblische Reisen, Ferien Touristik, Sancarbarlaz Tours, Coral Travel, and DER Tour, are also part of the delegation. Meetings in Egypt were also attended by the CEO of the Egyptian Promotion Board, Ahmed Youssef, and also by Ashraf Mohieldin, who is currently the director general of Giza Antiquities. It is a highly interactive section with a team of international delegates and senior officials from different departments of Egypt. 

Discussions are conducted during a meeting as a familiarization trip, which is specially organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in cooperation with the German Travel Association, which will be active till 27 April 2026. This visit by the German travel association with several delegations was aimed at strengthening partnerships with one of their most important tourism markets, which is Egypt, as the Germans contribute a significant number of tourists every year to Egypt. 

The meeting has covered a range of issues that have mutual interest, which also includes the regional developments and their implications for enhanced global tourism flows; with all these, challenges regarding rising prices of aviation fuel costs have also become part of the discussion.

Discussions with the other delegations have positive performance indicators, as they have reviewed the global tourism trends with particular focus on the inbound travel to Egypt from Germany. As tourism is travelling to the country not only for tourism but also for business expansion and other purposes as well. Sherif Fathy, the minister of tourism and antiquities, has outlined their strategy, which has shed light upon leveraging Egypt’s diverse and globally unique tourism offerings. 

This approach focuses on expanding and enhancing the tourism products and experiences for the international visitors. To support the statement, he has also announced openings of new destinations that are going to attract a broader range of international tourists all over the world.

While addressing the delegates, Sherif Fathy also highlighted the emerging opportunities in areas such as the North Coast, alongside talking about existing and newly opened cultural and heritage sites like the Grand Egyptian Museum and Cairo explorations. The minister has also drawn focus towards the specialized segments that are being recently promoted through digital platforms, which include family trips, business expos, conferences and exhibitions (MICE), and tourism to increase the inbound flow of visitors to Egypt. 

In addition to his addressing speech, he significantly put focus on the Aten Museum opening in Minya, which is expected to drive more tourists, especially in the Upper Egypt region. 

As a result, Albin Loidl, the president of the German Travel Association, and other delegations have commended the recent infrastructure developments and milestones achieved by the Egyptian tourism authorities, stating that they will have a positive impact on the overall tourism experience in Egypt.  

Especially the delegation and other senior officers from German tourism authorities have praised the Grand Egyptian Museum as a major addition to the portfolio of the Egyptian tourism industry. Loved the infrastructure and unique ways that represent the rich culture and history of the Egyptian civilizations that are also enhancing the competitive status in the international tourism markets. 

The detailed familiarization program organized between the Egyptian and German delegations includes visits to major tourist spots in Cairo, Alexandria, and the North Coast that have offered the first-hand experience of Egyptian hospitality to the German officials. Also, they have got insight about the breadth of Egypt’s historical and cultural landmarks that defines the rich past of ancient Egypt. 

This visit by the delegations of Germany aims to introduce less conventional destinations in the German tourism markets that will encourage the inclusions in future tour programs. The officials saw this step as towards boosting inbound travel from Germany.
