Egypt records historic tourism earnings of $16.7 billion during FY2024/25

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in the year 2025, 19 million tourists visited Egypt, which is more than the 2024 numbers, which were around 15.8 million. With the increase in the number of international tourists, the state has also generated higher revenue in recent years.

Egypt’s tourism revenue has hit an all-time high of $16.7 billion during the fiscal years of 2024 and 2025, with a recorded growth rate of 56.1%, which is the highest percentage in almost 109 years of Egypt’s tourism industry, as mentioned in the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) official reports.

The tourism industry strengthened its role in Egypt’s economy during FY 2024/2025, contributing 3.7% to the country’s GDP, compared to 3.4% in the previous fiscal year. The sector also witnessed significant growth in visitor activity, as total tourists increased by 16.4% to reach 179.3 million. This rise from 154.1 million nights in FY 2023/2024 reflects increasing international travel demand, longer visitor stays, and the continued recovery and expansion of Egypt’s tourism market.

Compared to the year 2024, the number of tourists that reached Egypt was 15.8 million, and a rise in numbers to 19 million in 2025 shows its position rising in the international tourism market.

Here is a list of some specifications that the Egyptian government is making by expanding infrastructure, as mentioned below:

  • Egypt currently has nearly 1,300 land-based and floating hotels supporting its growing tourism industry.
  • Around 3,680 shops across the country specialize in selling antiquities, souvenirs, and tourism-related products.
  • The tourism sector also includes approximately 1,620 tourist restaurants and cafés catering to local and international visitors.
  • Egypt is home to nearly 630 diving centers and marine activity facilities, particularly in coastal destinations.
  • More than 17,230 tourist vehicles operate across the country to support travel and sightseeing services.
  • The country’s tourism network is further strengthened by around 2,240 tourism and travel companies.

The company Fitch Solutions has noticed that the tourists arriving in Egypt in 2026 will reach around 18.56 million. Also, the same agency has noticed that due to the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, the number of tourists is expected to increase, which will eventually boost Egypt’s tourism sector. The estimations indicate that the country will receive approximately 5 million visitors every year.

According to plans made for the years 2025-2029, Egypt’s tourism sector is likely to have a manual growth of around 5.7% with the arrival of tourists from around the world. This means that approximately 20.65 million tourists will come to Egypt by 2029, and the government will achieve its tourism target with great margins.
