• Speed: It is the fastest way to cover a distance of approximately 700 km to Luxor or 900 km to Aswan in less time.

• Comfort: You will avoid a long, sometimes difficult, overnight trip on land.

Cons:

• Cost: This is usually the most expensive option, especially if it’s not included in a package.
• Airport Security: Expect multiple and stringent security checks at Egyptian airports.

 

Second option: Classic option – night sleeper train

For a traditional local travel experience, or simply as a more budget-friendly alternative to flying, the overnight sleeper train is a popular option for travel from North to South in Egypt.

• Train Journey: You will take the Wagons-Lits sleeper train from Ramses Station (main station) in Cairo or Giza Station (that serves trains to the south), heading to Luxor or Aswan, where you start.
• Trip Duration: Expect a long trip: about 10-12 hours to Luxor and 13-15 hours to Aswan (depending on the train traffic). You’ll check in late in the evening and wake up near your destination.

Pros:

• Efficiency: You’ll be traveling overnight, saving you a day of sightseeing and the cost of a night in a hotel.
• The Experience: It is a classic and historical way to travel the Nile Valley for hundreds of years.
• Features: Sleeping cabins are equipped with beds and include dinner and breakfast, with coffee cargo.

Cons:

• Comfort: Although easy to use, the cabins are simple and small, and the journey can be tiring compared to European trains.
• Delays: Egyptian trains are often subject to delays due to many stops or heavy traffic.
• Reservation: A reservation is necessary, especially for the “Wagons-Lits” trains designated for tourists.

 

 

Option 3: Economy/Local Experience – Regular train or bus with seats

For the adventurous traveler on a budget who doesn’t mind a long journey,  the regular train is a suitable option as well as the bus from Cairo to Luxor or to Aswan.

• Journey: Regular-seating trains run several times daily from Cairo to Luxor and Aswan; you can book from the central train station, or the bus by the famous company in Egypt, GoBus
• Travel time: Very long trip: 9 to 11 hours to Luxor, 12 to 14 hours to Aswan whatever by bus or train.

Pros:

• Affordability: This is the cheapest way to travel without a high price.
