Why is the tomb of Nefertari closed?

The tomb of Queen Nefertari is one of the well-preserved and delicate tombs. Her tomb was beautifully decorated with paintings and hieroglyphics showing her journey and role in the administrative practice. Due to increased levels of humidity and environmental conditions, the tombs’ paintings are being destroyed. So, as of March 2024, the tomb of Nefertari was closed to protect it from further damage. About Queen Nefertiti 

Queen Nefertiti is also one of the famous queens from ancient Egypt and is worldwide famous for the face and bust painted artifact now present in a museum in Berlin. She lived during the 18th Dynasty in the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt. She is the wife of the king Akhenaten.  

Her contributions are significant and widespread, as she transformed the religious beliefs of the Egyptians from polytheism to the worship of the sun disk god Aten. Both Queen Nefertiti and Pharaoh Akhenaten supported the religious practices associated with the sun disk in the 18th Dynasty. Often, Nefertiti was part of carvings and inscriptions, but some historians also say that she tried to be removed from the royal records during the 12th year of her husband’s rule in Egypt. 

Where is Nefertiti’s head now? 

The famous bust of Nefertiti was her identity and one of the most recognizable artifacts from ancient Egypt. The sculpture was seen wearing the iconic blue crown and minimal jewelry. Her bust was discovered in Amarna, a vast archaeological site in Middle Eastern Egypt, by the German archaeologists in 1912.
