Eid Al-Fitr in Egypt 2026: Shawwal Crescent Expected to Appear for 35 Minutes in Cairo

The major Shawwal crescent will be visible in Cairo on 19 March for around 35 minutes after sunset on the day of sighting, which is the 29th day of the holy month of Ramadan, and with this, it marks the end of the fasting of Ramadan, and the month of Shawwal begins according to the Islamic calendar. 

In Egypt, Eid Al-Fitr is likely to occur on the 20th of March, 2026, according to the calculation of astronomy, which depends on the crescent sighting. The visibility of the crescent over Makkah, the holy site of Islam, is around 30 minutes after sunset. In the rest of the cities of Egypt, the special Shawwal crescent is also visible for a time ranging between 30 and 37 minutes.
