The new height for Cairo International Airport is in the first quarter of 2026, as it has recorded a rise in passengers by 9% in comparison to the records of previous years. This passenger traffic increase shows the improved position of Cairo Airport on the global level.

According to the reports and numbers, the airport has managed around more than 8 million passengers in just the span of three months from January to March 2026. This statistic reflects the strong recovery and demand for travel in Africa. The first quarter has seen double-digit growth, which is the main reason for the improvement of passenger traffic.

The flights’ movement also rose up to 21,044, which was before 18,529 for the same period; the significant rise in number indicates the need to improve air connectivity routes, and the aviation industry in Egypt is largely focusing on this. The 14% increase according to the data, which was released on Monday, 6 April, by the airport, shows the growth and potential to handle high international traffic. February has performed well also because of the Umrah season, which earlier also drives traffic due to religious purposes; this year also saw an increase in numbers.

In March the performance was slightly low, maybe due to the Middle East disturbances, but overall on a quarterly basis, the numbers remain positive and strong. These high-traffic results are proving the Cairo International Airport as a vital aviation hub, which has the potential to handle the majority of international traffic in the country.

Magdy Ishaq, the chairman of the Cairo Airport Company, credited the growth to the ongoing investments and improvements that were made in operational systems. The quality movements and smooth handling of passengers have contributed to its overall value in the global aviation industry.

The operational improvements include continuous monitoring of terminals and flight operations, which helped maintain smooth passenger flow and operational efficiency. Overall airport performance speaks about its resilience in the Egyptian aviation industry; despite the rise in tension in the Middle East, the airport continues to sustain its functions.

This strong start of 2026 is seen contributing to the country’s promise for the target to attract around 30 million tourists by 2028. The great start with increased traffic at the airport and also in recent months, the newly announced direct flights to the west coast of the United States may result in a rise of the international traffic at the Cairo International Airport.

In the year 2024, Egypt welcomed around 15.3 million tourists, a nearly 5% increase from the previous year, showing the growth in the aviation and tourism sector. The Egyptian authorities are focusing on getting higher numbers before the ending of this year, as the peak tourist season of September and October will be approaching.
