735 thousand visitors to three Egyptian archaeological exhibitions in Europe,  Asia & USA

Cairo – Nile Cruisen

In a scene that reflects historical prestige and an unending global passion for the greatness of Pharaohs ancestors, temporary exhibitions of Egyptian antiquities abroad have set new records, as three major exhibitions in Britain, Italy and Hong Kong have attracted about 735,000 visitors since their opening until today. These successes reaffirm that the ancient Egyptian civilization is Egypt’s most prominent soft power abroad and a fundamental driver for the tourism and cultural promotion of the Egyptian state.

Numbers that reflect the “Pharaoh’s obsession” around the world

Reports received from the museums and external exhibitions sector revealed the massive turnout witnessed in international capitals:

  • Hong Kong (Asian Leader): The exhibition “Ancient Egypt Reveals Its Secrets… Treasures from Egyptian Museums” topped the demand list, receiving about 345,000 visitors since its launch last November, which highlights the growing interest of the people of East Asia in discovering the secrets of mummies and Egyptian funerary rituals.
  • Rome (The Magic of Shared History): The “Treasures of the Pharaohs” exhibition in the Italian capital, Rome, has succeeded in attracting 322,000 visitors since its opening in October 2025, amid widespread praise from Italian art critics and historians for the modern museum display method.
  • London (Ramesses Shine): Despite its relatively recent opening last February, the “Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs” exhibition in the British capital, London, was able to receive approximately 68,000 visitors, with expectations that this number will double during the coming summer months due to the reservations that filled the appointment schedules.

Strategic decisions: new destinations and underwater treasures

In light of this success, the Foreign Exhibitions Committee held a meeting to discuss the next steps to capitalize on this international momentum. The meeting resulted in a set of important strategic decisions:

  • Conquest of the American Continent: We have decided to extend the tour of the “Treasures of the Pharaohs” exhibition from Europe to the Northern Continent, where it will begin an expanded tour in many major museums in the United States of America, in response to repeated requests from cultural institutions there.
  • Sunken Treasures Exhibition: The committee agreed to organize a unique outdoor exhibition focusing on “Egypt’s underwater antiquities.” This exhibition will highlight the pieces excavated from the coasts of Alexandria (Heracleion and Canopus) and is scheduled for next year in the United States of America, offering an unprecedented visual and historical experience for the American public.

Economic and cultural vision

Experts in the antiquities sector confirmed to Nile Cruisen that these exhibitions not only generate direct financial revenues for the state, but also contribute directly to “activating inbound tourism,” as the visitor in London or Rome turns into a potential tourist seeking to see the original temples and tombs in Egypt.

“The interest we see in Hong Kong and London is a message of love and appreciation for Egypt, which drives us to diversify the archaeological content on display to include different eras and specialties, such as sunken antiquities, which will represent the biggest surprise for next year.”
